Maundy Thursday, April 18, 2019…

Maundy Thursday commemorates the day before Jesus was arrested. The service includes a variety of elements from the last supper. Prior to the start of the service at 6 p.m. there will be a Passover dinner in the Parish Hall.

The service itself includes important elements from Jesus’ last meal with his disciples. One component of the service is the washing of feet. The washing of feet is a reminder to all of us as Christians that we should be humble in service to others. Members of the congregation will be invited to have their feet washed or wash the feet of others. It was on Maundy Thursday that Jesus said to all  his disciples, throughout the ages, “ I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)

It is also during this service that we celebrate the completion of Communion Class. Members of the Communion Class are the first to receive Holy Communion that night. Members of the Communion Class will then be lead to the Parish Hall. After everyone else receives Communion, the servers and altar guild will begin to strip the altar for Good Friday.
