Join us for the moving service of Tenebrae at 7pm.
Tenebrae, literally Latin for “shadows” or “darkness,” is a sorrowful service, drawn from ancient monastic liturgies of Evening Prayer during Holy Week. We read from the book of Lamentations and the Prophet Isaiah. We watch candles go out, echoing the desertion of the disciples, until only one is left. We hear the psalms chanted to age-old melodies and are startled by the sound of an earthquake. By entering wholly into Jesus’ sorrow, we are later able to fully appreciate resurrection joy.
