“In the darkness, fire is kindled” (Book of Common Prayer, 285). This service unfolds before us the great story of our redemption as we move from darkness to light, from silence to joyful proclamation, from death to life. “This is the night, when Christ broke the bonds of death and hell, and rose victorious from the grave.”(BCP, 286) We recount the record of God’s saving deeds through history and welcome new members into the fellowship of the church in Holy Baptism. We proclaim with great joy the victory of our God in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter. This liturgy is the culmination and conclusion of the great liturgy that began on Maundy Thursday and was continued on Good Friday. It propels us in joy to our celebrations on Easter Day and throughout the Great Fifty Days of Easter.
